IntervalCoach vs Runna: Honest Comparison
Both build a plan to your race and adjust it as you go. Runna adjusts to what you ran; IntervalCoach adjusts to how you recovered, and plans your rides, swims and strength alongside the runs.
Quick verdict
Pick Runna if you only run, you live in Strava, and you want the most polished running-only app with excellent watch sync. Pick IntervalCoach if you also ride, swim or lift, if you want today's run adjusted to last night's sleep and HRV rather than to last week's mileage, or if $20 a month for a running plan is more than you want to pay.

Adaptation is more than 'easier or rest'
Your signals can reshape today's workout in many ways, adjusting the warm-up, capping intensity, swapping the workout type, or adding a breathing block to the cooldown. The coach picks what fits.

When to pick Runna
Runna is the most polished running app on the market, and since Strava bought it in 2025 it is also the most integrated one: plans from 5K to marathon, workouts on your Garmin, Apple Watch, Coros or Suunto with the phone left at home, completed runs straight back in, and the week reshuffled when you miss one. The coaching content is good and the onboarding is the smoothest in the category.
It's the right pick if running is your only sport, Strava is home, and you want structure with as little friction as possible. Runna's narrow focus is why it feels so finished.
When to pick IntervalCoach
Pick IntervalCoach if you want the plan to look at last night before it decides today. Runna's adaptation is calendar-led: it knows you skipped Tuesday, not that you slept four hours before Wednesday's threshold session. IntervalCoach reads over 60 recovery signals (HRV, sleep and sleep debt, resting heart rate, breathing rate, skin temperature, training load, your own check-in) before each session and adjusts the run when the data calls for it, including easing a day that looks like an oncoming cold.
And it plans everything you do, not only the runs. Rides, swims, strength and trail all land in one plan under five periodization models steered by your goal race, so a hard bike day is never followed by a threshold run written as if your legs were fresh. Workouts go to your calendar through Intervals.icu and on to Garmin, Coros, Apple Watch, Polar or Zwift, with race pace plans for the day itself. 17 languages, and €3 to €8 a month against Runna's $19.99.
iOS depth, not just iOS presence
Both ship native iOS apps with Apple Watch support, and Runna's watch experience is excellent for following a session. IntervalCoach goes deeper on what Apple already knows about you: Apple Health is a first-class recovery source, with HRV, sleep, resting heart rate, VO₂ max, wrist temperature, blood oxygen and menstrual cycle data flowing into your daily readiness without any setup beyond the permission prompt. Siri shortcuts, home and lock screen widgets, Apple Watch complications and iPad support keep the next session one glance away, and the whole app is natively localised in 17 languages.

IntervalCoach is rated 4.8 out of 5 from 86 ratings on the App Store. Below are reviews from the App Store and Google Play, plus athletes we have featured on the blog.
4.8from 86 ratings on the App Store“I've been using IntervalCoach daily for more than six months. IC uses AI to provide adaptive training plans, detailed workouts, readiness, load management, etc. All of this is packaged in an attractive and intuitive UI. IC has helped me develop a long term plan (and stick to that plan!) for future A-races. […] This app provides the best combo of functionality, speed of development and affordability.”
“The App is made for athletes. Very good overview of all helpful details, when you start in a new training day (sleep, HRV, mood, etc. is analyzed and your training plan adapted if needed e.g. if HRV is low or you had a bad sleep). […] For me it is the best App on the market so far!”
“That's really impressive, tackling all of these things so quickly! Good luck finding that level of support from a big company like Google or Strava.”
“awesome app. work in progress, but the developer is incredibly fast at introducing new features and fixing bugs. there are a lot of options out there with AI trainers, but I'll be sticking to this one due to the amazing features and customer support.”
“I traditionally struggle with systems because I compete in multi-day, non-stop adventure racing events and these systems tend to focus on one discipline or are more triathlon-focused. […] What I appreciate about intervalcoach is that the coach+ system has been good at trying to work around my requests.”
