2026 guide for coaches
Best Software for Endurance Coaches in 2026
Cycling, running and triathlon coaches now choose between two kinds of tool: platforms where you write every plan, and newer ones that write and adapt the plan while you steer. Here is every option worth your time, what it costs, and where a rival suits you better than we do.
Coaching software used to mean a calendar, a workout builder and a way to bill athletes. That category is mature and still runs most coaching businesses. Next to it a second category has grown up: tools that generate each athlete's plan and adjust it as training and recovery unfold, so the coach reviews and corrects instead of writing every session from scratch.
This guide covers both. We build IntervalCoach, so we say so plainly, describe every rival fairly and list what we do not do. Prices come from each vendor's own site in September 2026; check them before you buy. Today's Plan closed in March 2024, so it is not included.

Two questions that narrow it down fast
Do you want to write the plans, or review them?
TrainingPeaks, Final Surge, Intervals.icu and Coachbox are built for the coach who writes the plan: a calendar, a workout builder and analysis, with you making every decision. Athletica, Vekta, Stride, HumanGO and IntervalCoach generate each athlete's plan and adjust it as the weeks go, and you steer and correct. The first kind gives you full control of every session. The second gives you back the evenings you spend writing them.
Who pays: you or your athletes?
Most of the newer AI tools are free for the coach and charge each athlete a monthly subscription, so your price to the athlete sits on top of theirs. TrainingPeaks, Final Surge and Coachbox charge the coach, with TrainingPeaks adding a fee per Premium athlete. IntervalCoach charges the coach per seat and each seat covers the athlete's full subscription, so your athletes pay us nothing.
The established platforms
Built for the coach who writes the plan. Mature, well supported, and two of them handle billing your athletes as well.
The industry standard for endurance coaches. Coach Edition includes four Basic athletes and one Premium athlete, extra Premium athletes cost $9/mo each, and a larger plan covers more Basic athletes. You can invoice athletes inside it, and many plan authors sell there. The plans are yours to write: we found no AI that builds or adapts them. Garmin announced in July 2026 that it is acquiring TrainingPeaks.
Visit siteA straightforward coaching platform with the business side built in: take payments, sell subscriptions to athletes and list your coaching in its marketplace. Good value for a small roster. No AI, so you write and adjust every plan yourself.
Visit siteDeep analysis, a calendar and a workout builder, connected to Garmin, Wahoo, Strava and more, for almost nothing and with no fee per athlete. No AI planning and no payments, so it suits a coach who writes every session by hand. IntervalCoach runs on top of it, so the two work together.
Visit siteA coach-first platform with four tiers, billed yearly: €19/mo for 5 athletes, €49/mo for 25, €79/mo for 50 and €149/mo for 100, each with a small fee per extra athlete. Coachbox AI is a chat over your athletes' data; the plans are still yours to write. Intervals.icu is not among the integrations it lists.

These generate and adjust each athlete's plan for you. Most are free for the coach and charge the athlete a monthly subscription.
Founded by a physiologist, with AI that builds and adjusts each athlete's plan across sports. The only other tool in this guide that syncs with Intervals.icu (since March 2026). Your athletes carry the subscription.
Visit siteCoach-first and focused on cycling, with a lot of automation: automatic ride analysis, Monday reports and a connection to Claude and ChatGPT. No Intervals.icu connection.
Visit siteA newer coaching platform with an attention score per athlete and AI that re-plans when training goes off course. Both the coach and the athletes pay.
Visit siteThe multisport AI planner, good at rebuilding the remaining weeks after missed training, also sells a coach offering. Its coach page and its FAQ quote different prices, so confirm the current figure on its site before you commit.
Visit siteWhere IntervalCoach fits for coaches
This is the platform we build. Every athlete gets a plan built from their goal, fitness, recovery and availability, and the sessions are re-picked overnight when something changes: a bad night, a missed workout, a cold. You start the day on a list of who needs you and why, and mark an athlete handled once you have dealt with it. Around it: what changed since you last looked, one approvals inbox for the whole squad, an eight-week squad timeline, squad analytics, and a squad digest in your inbox every Monday morning. You can switch into any athlete's account to edit the plan or use Coach+ on their behalf, and every signal is shown in your language, whatever language your athletes use. It runs on Intervals.icu, so you keep its calendar and workout builder.
The coach pays per seat: €10 per athlete up to four seats, €8 from five, €7 from fifteen, and an individual price from forty. Plans start at three seats. Each seat includes that athlete's full Max plan, so they pay nothing. What we do not do: we do not invoice your athletes for you, there is no direct messaging between coach and athlete beyond the shared Coach+ thread, there is no template library or plan marketplace, and on the self-serve plan each coach buys their own seats. If billing athletes or selling plans is central to your business, TrainingPeaks or Final Surge is the better home.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best software for endurance coaches in 2026?
It depends on what you want the software to do. If you write every plan yourself and bill athletes through the platform, TrainingPeaks and Final Surge are the proven choices. If you write by hand and want the most analysis for the least money, use Intervals.icu. If you want plans generated and adapted for you, the AI tools are the newer category: Athletica and Vekta charge the athlete, while IntervalCoach charges the coach per seat and the athlete pays nothing.
Who pays for the software: the coach or the athlete?
It varies. Athletica and Vekta are free for the coach and charge each athlete a monthly subscription. Stride charges both. TrainingPeaks, Final Surge and Coachbox charge the coach. IntervalCoach charges the coach per seat, and the seat includes the athlete's full Max plan, so the athlete never sees a bill from us and you set your own coaching fee on top.
Can I keep using Intervals.icu?
Yes. IntervalCoach runs on Intervals.icu: you and your athletes each need a free account, and workouts land on the Intervals.icu calendar, so its calendar, workout builder and analysis stay part of how you work. Athletica also syncs with Intervals.icu.
What does Garmin buying TrainingPeaks mean for coaches?
Garmin announced the acquisition of TrainingPeaks, together with TrainHeroic, on 22 July 2026. When we checked in September 2026, Coach Edition pricing and features were as listed above. The question for a coach is the same as before: whether you need its invoicing and marketplace, or want plans that adapt for you.
Is there a minimum number of athletes?
IntervalCoach's Coach Plan starts at three seats, and you can add or drop seats whenever your roster changes, billed prorated. TrainingPeaks Coach Edition includes five athletes in its base price, Final Surge's Coach Starter covers one to five athletes, and Coachbox starts at five. If you coach one or two athletes, Intervals.icu coaching groups are the cheapest route.
If the plan is generated, am I still the coach?
Yes. In IntervalCoach every adaptation is explained, you can override any session, set standing instructions per athlete, and ask to approve changes before they reach the athlete. Each athlete chooses full access or view-only for their coach, and your edits are attributed to you.
Does it work for runners and triathletes, or only cyclists?
IntervalCoach plans cycling, running, triathlon, swimming and strength, with zones kept calibrated per sport. Among the other AI tools, Vekta focuses on cycling, while Athletica and HumanGO plan several sports.
Start with three seats
Start a Coach Plan, invite your athletes by email or link, and each of them gets the full Max plan at no cost to them.
Add or drop seats whenever your roster changes. You and your athletes each need a free Intervals.icu account.
