What this race demands

Grande Trail Serra D’Arga demands sustained muscular durability and climbing efficiency across 100 kilometers and 4594 meters of elevation gain in the mountains of northern Portugal.

Climbing volume

Accumulating nearly 4600 meters of elevation over 100 kilometers requires consistent ascending strength and pacing discipline on steep mountain tracks and deep valleys.

Eccentric durability

Navigating extensive descents across technical mountain terrain places high mechanical stress on the quadriceps and stabilizing muscles over a protracted duration.

Extended endurance

An ultra-distance trail event spanning deep into mountainous terrain demands robust aerobic capacity and late-race fatigue resistance.

A sustained intake of 60 to 90 grams of carbohydrates per hour is necessary to support energy availability over the projected multi-hour duration.
