The best TrainingPeaks alternatives in 2026

TrainingPeaks is where coaches work, and if you have one you should probably stay. But if you're self-coached, paying $20 a month for a calendar and a chart, or unsure what Garmin's ownership means for your data, here is what athletes are moving to.

Why people look for an alternative

  • Garmin bought TrainingPeaks in July 2026. Nothing has changed yet, but athletes on Wahoo, Coros or Polar are asking what a Garmin-owned platform means for them.
  • Premium is ~$19.95 a month for planning tools you operate yourself: it records and charts, it doesn't decide.
  • No daily adaptation. The plan on the calendar is the plan, whatever last night looked like.
  • The Performance Management Chart is the reason many people pay, and it's available for free elsewhere.
  • Coach-first design: the athlete features are the part that gets the least attention.

The alternatives, ranked

Ranked for the athlete who is leaving, not for us. IntervalCoach is on the list because we build it; the others are here because they are the ones that actually get picked.

  1. 1.IntervalCoach

    €3–€8/mo

Best for: Self-coached athletes who want the decisions made, and made from their recovery

Where TrainingPeaks records, IntervalCoach decides: it builds the plan toward your goal event, reads 60+ recovery signals before each session and adjusts the day when the data calls for it, then writes structured workouts to your calendar for Garmin, Wahoo, Zwift or your pool watch. Cycling, running, trail, swim, strength. Coaches can sit on top of it too, with per-athlete seats.

    Full head-to-head
  2. 2.Intervals.icu

    Free ($4/mo supporter)

Best for: Anyone who paid TrainingPeaks for the analytics

The direct replacement for the Performance Management Chart and the calendar, free and independent, with power and pace curves, zones, wellness and a planning calendar that syncs to everything. It doesn't coach; it's the data layer most of the newer AI coaches, IntervalCoach included, build on.

  3. 3.Final Surge

    Free (premium ~$6.58/mo)

Best for: Athletes and coaches who want TrainingPeaks' shape for free

The closest like-for-like: a training log and plan-delivery platform for coaches and self-coached athletes, free for athletes, popular in running. Same idea as TrainingPeaks, not an adaptive coach.

  4. 4.Athletica

    ~$19.90/mo

Best for: Athletes who want science-forward periodisation done for them

Founded by a physiologist; credible periodisation across cycling, running and triathlon, with a workout-reserve model. Re-plans periodically rather than every morning. Same price as TrainingPeaks, far more automated.

    Full head-to-head
  5. 5.Humango

    ~$17–29/mo

Best for: Multi-sport athletes with chaotic weeks

Good at rebuilding the remaining weeks after illness or a missed block and scheduling around real availability. Triathlon needs the pricier tier.

    Full head-to-head
  6. 6.JOIN

    ~€16.99/mo

Best for: Cyclists who want a plan that fits around their week

Polarised cycling plans that re-plan around your availability, in a clean app. Cycling only.

    Full head-to-head
  7. 7.Garmin Coach

    Free

Best for: Garmin owners who'd rather stay in one ecosystem

If Garmin owning TrainingPeaks doesn't bother you, Garmin Coach gives you free adaptive plans for running, cycling and triathlon in the same app as your watch. Weekly adaptation, one plan at a time.

Our honest verdict

With a human coach: stay on TrainingPeaks, or ask them about Final Surge. Self-coached and paying for the charts: Intervals.icu gives you the same analytics for free. Self-coached and wanting the decisions made from your recovery, across your sports: IntervalCoach, at a fraction of the price, reading the same data. Everything on this list syncs to Garmin, so switching costs you an afternoon, not your history.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free TrainingPeaks alternative?

Intervals.icu is free and covers the analytics most people paid TrainingPeaks for; Final Surge is free for athletes; Garmin Coach is free for Garmin owners. IntervalCoach has a free weekly plan and a 14-day trial of its daily-adaptation features.

What does Garmin's acquisition of TrainingPeaks mean for me?

For now, nothing changes for existing accounts. Longer term, expect deeper Garmin integration and the usual questions about how well non-Garmin devices stay supported. If that worries you, the platforms on this list are device-neutral. We wrote a longer piece on what the deal means for your training data.

Can I move my TrainingPeaks history?

Yes. Export your workouts (TrainingPeaks supports bulk export), or simply connect the new tool to Strava or Garmin, where your completed activities already live. Intervals.icu imports history from Strava directly.

Which alternative is best for a coach with athletes?

Final Surge is the like-for-like. IntervalCoach's Coach Plan is the different model: the AI does the daily coaching and the coach supervises, with a squad roster, approvals and per-athlete seats from €7.

I've been using IntervalCoach daily for more than six months. IC uses AI to provide adaptive training plans, detailed workouts, readiness, load management, etc. All of this is packaged in an attractive and intuitive UI. IC has helped me develop a long term plan (and stick to that plan!) for future A-races. […] This app provides the best combo of functionality, speed of development and affordability.

The App is made for athletes. Very good overview of all helpful details, when you start in a new training day (sleep, HRV, mood, etc. is analyzed and your training plan adapted if needed e.g. if HRV is low or you had a bad sleep). […] For me it is the best App on the market so far!

That's really impressive, tackling all of these things so quickly! Good luck finding that level of support from a big company like Google or Strava.

awesome app. work in progress, but the developer is incredibly fast at introducing new features and fixing bugs. there are a lot of options out there with AI trainers, but I'll be sticking to this one due to the amazing features and customer support.

I traditionally struggle with systems because I compete in multi-day, non-stop adventure racing events and these systems tend to focus on one discipline or are more triathlon-focused. […] What I appreciate about intervalcoach is that the coach+ system has been good at trying to work around my requests.
