The best JOIN alternatives in 2026

JOIN does one thing well: a polarised cycling plan that re-plans around your week. People leave when they start running too, when they want the plan to read their sleep rather than their calendar, or when €17 a month feels like a lot for a few hours of riding. Here is what they move to.

Why people look for an alternative

  • Cycling only. Add running or swimming and JOIN can't see that load, so its 'rest day' may land on a day you ran hard.
  • Adapts to your availability more than to your recovery: it knows you have Tuesday free, not how you slept Monday night.
  • ~€16.99 a month (or ~€80 a year) is steep for the 3–5 hours a week many JOIN users ride.
  • The polarised model is fixed. If you want sweet spot, pyramidal or block periodisation, you can't switch.
  • No conversational coach, no race pacing, limited analytics.

The alternatives, ranked

Ranked for the athlete who is leaving, not for us. IntervalCoach is on the list because we build it; the others are here because they are the ones that actually get picked.

  1. 1.IntervalCoach

    €3–€8/mo

Best for: JOIN users who started running, or who want the plan to read their sleep

Same idea as JOIN, one level deeper: it re-plans around your week and it reads 60+ recovery signals before each session, adjusting today's workout when the data calls for it. Cycling, running, trail, swim and strength in one plan, five periodisation models instead of one, structured workouts to Zwift or your head unit via Intervals.icu. Cheaper than JOIN on every tier.

    Full head-to-head
  2. 2.Garmin Coach

    Free

Best for: Garmin owners who want free

Free adaptive cycling plans in Garmin Connect that read the watch's Training Readiness. Coarser than JOIN (weekly adaptation, one plan at a time) but it does know how you slept, and it costs nothing.

    Full head-to-head
  3. 3.Zwift training plans

    Included in Zwift (~$19.99/mo)

Best for: Indoor riders already on Zwift

If most of your riding is on Zwift, its plans and AI suggestions cover the basics at no extra cost. They never prescribe rest, so keep one rest rule of your own.

  4. 4.TrainerRoad

    ~$21.99/mo

Best for: Racers who train mostly indoors on power

More expensive than JOIN and just as cycling-only, but with the largest structured workout library and Adaptive Training that adjusts after each session. The step up if you're getting serious about indoor racing.

    Full head-to-head
  5. 5.Xert

    ~$10–15/mo

Best for: Riders who want fitness modelling and outdoor-friendly workouts

A fitness-signature model instead of FTP, with workouts that adapt to it and suit outdoor riding. Cycling only, and a learning curve.

  6. 6.Humango

    ~$17–29/mo

Best for: Multi-sport athletes who liked JOIN's re-planning

The multi-sport version of what JOIN does: rebuilds the remaining weeks around disruptions, across cycling, running and triathlon. Similar price to JOIN, pricier for tri.

Our honest verdict

If you only ride and you like polarised training, JOIN is a good tool and you may not need to leave. If you've started running or swimming, or you want the plan to look at last night before deciding today, IntervalCoach does both and costs less. If you want free and own a Garmin, Garmin Coach.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free JOIN alternative?

Garmin Coach is free for Garmin owners, and Zwift's plans come with a Zwift subscription. IntervalCoach gives every athlete a free weekly plan, plus a 14-day trial of its daily-adaptation features.

Which JOIN alternative also plans running?

IntervalCoach, Humango and Garmin Coach plan running alongside cycling. IntervalCoach also covers trail, swim and strength in the same plan.

Can I use JOIN's workouts on Zwift?

Yes, JOIN syncs to Zwift. So do IntervalCoach (via Intervals.icu), TrainerRoad and Xert.

I've been using IntervalCoach daily for more than six months. IC uses AI to provide adaptive training plans, detailed workouts, readiness, load management, etc. All of this is packaged in an attractive and intuitive UI. IC has helped me develop a long term plan (and stick to that plan!) for future A-races. […] This app provides the best combo of functionality, speed of development and affordability.

The App is made for athletes. Very good overview of all helpful details, when you start in a new training day (sleep, HRV, mood, etc. is analyzed and your training plan adapted if needed e.g. if HRV is low or you had a bad sleep). […] For me it is the best App on the market so far!

That's really impressive, tackling all of these things so quickly! Good luck finding that level of support from a big company like Google or Strava.

awesome app. work in progress, but the developer is incredibly fast at introducing new features and fixing bugs. there are a lot of options out there with AI trainers, but I'll be sticking to this one due to the amazing features and customer support.

I traditionally struggle with systems because I compete in multi-day, non-stop adventure racing events and these systems tend to focus on one discipline or are more triathlon-focused. […] What I appreciate about intervalcoach is that the coach+ system has been good at trying to work around my requests.
