Sustained endurance
Covering 48.3 km off-road requires maintaining effort over a longer ride than a short cross-country event.
Off-road handling
The course is a cross-country mountain-bike route through forests and includes the Vasa Nordic ski trail, so riders need to handle off-road terrain.
Cool-season readiness
The race takes place in November in Northern Michigan, so riders should be prepared for cool-season conditions without assuming a specific race-day temperature.
