Why I Built IntervalCoach

I have been cycling seriously for over 15 years now, and I was always frustrated with training apps. They give you a plan, but they don't care that you slept terribly, had a stressful week at work, or just don't have the legs today. You either follow the plan or feel guilty for skipping it.

That gap always bothered me. A good human coach would look at you, ask how you're feeling, and adjust on the fly. But most training software just gives you a static calendar and expects you to execute.

Building the coach I wanted

So I built IntervalCoach. It connects to Intervals.icu to pull your fitness data, power curves, and training history. It looks at your recovery (via Whoop if you have one, or wellness data from Intervals.icu). And then it generates a workout that actually makes sense for today.

If your HRV is low and you barely slept, it won't throw VO2max intervals at you. If you're fresh and your fitness is trending up, it'll push you. The workout adapts to where you are right now, not where a plan assumed you'd be six weeks ago.

What surprised me

I honestly expected maybe 20 people to try it. Within two weeks, 250 athletes had signed up. I started getting messages from people saying it was exactly what they were looking for. Cyclists and runners who were tired of rigid plans and wanted something that works with their life, not against it.

That response changed my perspective on what this could become. What started as a side project for myself is now something I work on every single day.

Where it's going

I'm not sure exactly where this ends up, but I'm having a lot of fun finding out. Every day I'm shipping improvements: better workouts, smarter recovery detection, more sports, deeper analytics. The changelog moves fast.

If you want to give it a try, head to intervalcoach.app and connect your Intervals.icu account. It takes about 30 seconds to get started.
