What this race demands
L'Eroica Gaiole demands extreme endurance over 209 kilometers and 3,873 meters of climbing on vintage equipment across white gravel roads.
Climbing volume
Navigating 3,873 meters of elevation gain across a 209-kilometer route requires sustained climbing strength and efficient pacing over multiple significant ascents.
Equipment durability
The vintage focus and white gravel-and-tarmac roads of Chianti subject both the rider and mechanical components to continuous high-frequency impacts and stress.
Aerobic endurance
Covering 209 kilometers places heavy demands on the aerobic system, requiring consistent energy output over a prolonged duration in the saddle.
Given the extended duration, athletes should target 60 to 90 grams of carbohydrates per hour to sustain output across the 209-kilometer distance.
